Radio Network for Meir tunnel in Stoke-on-Trent July 10, 2020
PBE have been selected to upgrade the communications infrastructure in the Meir Tunnel, a 284-meter long road tunnel located on the A50, a major trunk road running almost 100 miles from Warrington to Leicester.
Meir is a suburb in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and the tunnel has been reducing local congestion since its opening in 1997. The self-ventilating, dual-lane tunnel allows free flow traffic to bypass the Meir junction on the A50 and continue towards the M6 Motorway.
The existing VHF voice communication system provided coverage for the Emergency Services and Highways England via a Radiating Cable Network (RCN).
PBE is providing an updated system that includes emergency services network connectivity, FM and DAB rebroadcast for driver convenience and a FM Voice Break-In (VBI) interface equipment to allows drivers to be warned in the case of an emergency.
